Backpack Safety Checklist

How many of us have tried to stuff things in our backpack so we didn’t have to stop at our lockers throughout the day? I know I can’t be the only one in this!

Below is a checklist that the American Chiropractic Association has put together to determine if your child’s backpack is right for them!

  • Are the shoulder straps padded?

  • Are the shoulder straps adjustable?

    • Make sure that the bottom of the backpack sits at the low back.

  • Does your child use both straps or one?

    • One strap will put more stress on that shoulder. Often times, they do not switch shoulders that are holding the stress from the backpack. If it is across both shoulders, it keeps the weight of the backpack even.

  • Is there a padded back?

  • Does the full backpack weight less than 10% of your child?

These are some simple questions to ask. If you have questions if you child’s backpack is right for them, bring it in at their next appointment and we can discuss how it should be set.

Let’s set your child up for success for the start of the 2021 school season!
